A Hiking Opportunity - Cave Run Lake Chapter of the Sheltowee Trace Trail Association will be leading a series of hikes that will cover the Rowan County section of the trail.  The hikes will take place on the third Saturday beginning in January 2017.   Please join us for an information/preparation meeting at The Morehead Conference Center on December 15th at 5pm.
Please join Sustainable Morehead and Daniel Boone Rails to Trails in our “FIRST HIKE” event of 2017!
We will meet at the Forest Service Visitor”s Center January 1, 2017, at 1:00 PM to hike a portion of the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail.
New Years “Good Luck ” snacks will be offered at the conclusion of the hike.

Second Sunday Hike for December 2016
Sustainable Morehead and Daniel Boone Rails to Trails - Second Sunday Hike:
2:00PM Dec 11 will be our final 2016 Hike. Meet at the Shallow Flats Viewing Area Parking Lot. The lot is a short distance past the Forest Service Visitor's Center on highway 801. Hikers are asked to bring one or more organic bird attractor such as a pine cone rolled in peanut butter rolled in wild bird seed with Cotten twine. We will decorate a tree for the birds and other woodland critters.
Allow about 2 hours for the hike.

November Meeting 2016

Monday, November 28th at 7pm -We will meet at the Methodist Church in Morehead.  We will be watching an uplifting, informative movie , "FRESH" followed by a brief post movie discussion and group information.  THIS MEETING IS POTLUCK!!!  Please bring a healthy salad or casserole to share.  Beverages and dessert will be provided.  I challenge everyone to bring one new person to this fun evening event. .

Two Events for Your October 2016 Calendar

Event 1 -Sustainable Morehead's Second Sunday Hike - October 9th at 2pm.  Meet at the Methodist Church in Morehead.  We will hike from Rodburn Park to Eagle Lake utilizing and enjoying parts of five of our local trails.  This will be fun.  Bring your camera, water, and a friend or family member. All are invited The leaves will be changing colors !!!

Event 2 - FINAL BIKE RIDE OF THE SEASON - We will meet on SATURDAY, October 22 at the Methodist Church Parking lot and car pool to LEXINGTON to ride the Legacy Trail ( a 7.5 mile trail [that is one way] ride from the YMCA on Loudon Ave. to the Horse Park and beyond.  Bring a lunch, water, and helmet.  RIDERS UNDER 18 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.     This will be a fun ride sponsored by Sustainable Morehead and Daniel Boone Rails to Trails.  All are welcome.

Sheltowee Trace Trail Maintenance Volunteer Opportunities

Greetings maintenance friends,
Our May work weekend is coming up soon.  It would be great to have a good showing, to enjoy each others company, to share in the joy of being out in these beautiful woods and to work together to help get the Sheltowee in good shape for those who choose to walk its path.

Again we have 2 days to offer.  I will be not be receiving the RSVPs this month, so instead please email the TEAM LEADER of the day you can work.

Wild and Scenic Film Festival

Wild and Scenic Film Festival - Saturday

Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC) Rowan County Chapter members and friends:

The Wild and Scenic Film Festival, with KFTC as a co-sponsor, will be held this next Saturday, January 23, at the Morehead Conference Center from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The Festival features 14 films.  There will also be speakers, food, and "local beers."  General Admission is $15; students - $10, children - $5. 

Kentucky Heartwood and the Sheltowee Trace Association are local sponsors.

January Meeting

Sustainable Morehead's January meeting will take place on January 25, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Morehead United Methodist Church.

The meeting is open to the public, and we encourage anyone interested in environmental conservation and sustainability to attend.
